Samsung’sIt is scheduled for August 10th and we are on the lookout . At tomorrow’s event, the company is expected to introduce new versions of its foldable phones and as well as the heir .
Rumored to be called Galaxy Watch 5, it could be the newest version of the upcoming smartwatchthat and Google created together. If the rumors are true, the Galaxy Watch 5 could also overcome a major drawback: battery life.
I hope to see Samsung commit more to Google’s software and services. As my colleague Scott Stein writes, the Galaxy Watch 4 is currently caught between the ecosystems of Google and Samsung.. This watch was finally bought among other Google services, but it took several months for these to appear after launch.
Samsung hasn’t said a word about its plans for its next smartwatch, though the company usually debuts new wearables in August. However, we are waiting for new foldable phones to be announced. In fact, to encourage people to reserve their phones early from July 19 to August 10from a maximum of $200 for those who reserve a Galaxy phone, watch and buds, to a minimum of $30 for those who reserve just the Galaxy buds, based on different packages. While this may be a hint at what’s coming in Unpacked, the savings may apply to older Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Buds models.
Based on leaks and the company’s previous presentations, here’s our best guess at what Samsung has planned.
Possible August announcement
Only Samsung knows when the next Galaxy Watch will arrive. But the company has a history of unveiling new wearables in August, along with other new products. For example,It debuted in August last year It arrived in August 2020. Samsung has already introduced new gadgets in 2022. sort for cheaper new and . One thing we haven’t heard about yet are smartwatches, so there’s a good chance Samsung is saving that for the typical August Unpacked event.
The Galaxy Watch 5 may come with a faster 10W charger than the 5W charger shipped with previous Samsung watches. A photo of the alleged person 10W Galaxy Watch 5 charger SnoopyTech revealed on its Twitter account on August 1st (h/t BGR) that it could reach 45% within 30 minutes.
Faster charging has become a prominent feature in several smartwatches, including smartphonesand . This is especially important because watches have also become sleep trackers, which Samsung debuted earlier this year To assess the quality of sleep while wearing the Galaxy Watch 4.
Bigger battery than Galaxy Watch 4
One of the downsides of the Galaxy Watch 4 is its relatively short battery life, which typically lasts between one and two days. There’s a chance that could change with the Galaxy Watch 5. Tech blog Sam Mobile claims to have found regulatory filings that show the 40mm Galaxy Watch 5 will have a slightly higher battery capacity than the Galaxy Watch 4. Samsung refused. comment on the report.
The longer battery life will make the Galaxy Watch 5 a more capable sleep tracker, as it may not need to be charged every night. This will also help you reach Samsungin this regard, since then and watches can last for several days on a single charge. Battery life was one of the Galaxy Watch 4’s biggest downfalls so an upgrade would be a welcome change.
It can take your temperature
The Galaxy Watch 4 can now monitor metrics like your body composition, blood oxygen levels, and heart rate. According to Korean news agency ETNews, Samsung may be upping its health ambitions by adding the ability to measure body temperature to the Galaxy Watch 5. The report doesn’t go into much detail other than to say that Samsung is “developing a technology that can measure body temperature as accurately as possible.” Samsung declined to comment on ETNews’ report.
But TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, known for his Apple product predictions, questioned the development. He suggested that “algorithmic limitations” could prevent Samsung from bringing the feature to the Galaxy Watch 5.
Temperature measurement is not new to wearables. The health ring of the same name can measure temperature from your finger to help detect changes that may be occurring in your body. Fitbit devices like the Sense and Versa 3 can also detect temperature.
If Samsung adds temperature sensing to its next smartwatch, it would be another sign that wearables are becoming all-around health and wellness devices. Indicators such as blood oxygen saturation measurements are now relatively common in wearable devices from Apple, Fitbit, Samsung and Garmin.
Samsung may abandon the Classic model
The Galaxy Watch 4 comes in standard and classic versions, but that may change with the Galaxy Watch 5. According to Sam Mobile, Samsung will introduce the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro instead. It is reported that the regular Galaxy Watch 5 may be limited to two sizes, while the Pro version may be limited to one size. It’s also unclear whether Samsung will bring the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic’s rotating bezel to the Galaxy Watch 5 or 5 Pro, the report says. While the blog didn’t share any further details on what to expect from the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro specifically, it’s possible that the new branding could indicate a significant upgrade rather than just a refresh.
Noted leaker Evan Blass also suggested that Samsung’s next watch will come in a standard and a “pro” model. He named the new watches as the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro while sharing what he claimed were official renders of the device on tech blog 91Mobiles.
Similar design to Galaxy Watch 4
According to leaks from Blass and 91Mobiles, the Galaxy Watch 5 is expected to have a circular design similar to the Galaxy Watch 4. Blass said the Pro model will be available in black or gray titanium, while Samsung will offer a wider range of colors for the standard version. The 91Mobiles leak shows the alleged Galaxy Watch 5 Pro in black and titanium gray and the alleged Watch 5 in white, blue and black.
It will likely run Wear OS
Samsung has yet to reveal any details about its next smartwatch. But because the Galaxy Watch 4 works, it seems plausible that there will be a successor. Google and Samsung have partnered to develop the new Wear OS, which means Samsung is committed to using this software for its future smartwatches. Sam Mobile’s report also says the watch will have a new version of One UI, Samsung’s customized version of Google’s watch software.
Samsung was the first to introduce a smartwatch running Google’s new Wear OS. But the landscape will soon become more competitiveis expected to arrive in hours from other companies and . Google’s Pixel Watch is also coming this fall.
What we want from the Galaxy Watch 5
Longer battery life and new health tracking features are always appreciated. But what we really want from the Galaxy Watch 5 is software that makes it feel more fully part of the Google ecosystem. The Galaxy Watch 4 feels torn between Google. Yes, it has Google Play app store and other Google apps. But the installation process and health monitoring still largely depend on Samsung apps.
The company addresses this to some extentper hour. But we’re hoping to see closer Google integration in the next version, which will really make the Galaxy Watch 5 feel like the ultimate Android smartwatch.
