The sixth and final chapterfell on it Last week saw Kamala Khan’s first adventure (and seventh TV show) ended with a comic book origin and the usual post-credits surprise. The final Kamala reaches ( ) later and her mother (Zenobia Shroff) accepts that her daughter has superpowers.
Little-used villain and Secret leader Najma (Nimra Bucha) sacrificed herself to close the Light Curtain and cut the dangerous portal to the home dimension. He abandoned his son Kamra (Rish Shah) but gave him his powers in his last moments.
Back home in Jersey City, Kamran takes refuge with Kamala’s super-smart best friend, Bruno Carrelli (Matt Lintz). A drone sent by the Department of Damage Control, which hunts people with powers, cuts them to the core. Kamran uses his powers to destroy it, but the Circle Q store is blown up in the process.
Let’s use our cosmic SPOILER powers and enter the finale. This show takes place in the period after Avengers: Endgame and part of it.
Tamra’s escape to Karachi, Pakistan, and under the care of the Red Daggers, Bruno Kamala, says he took another look at her genetic makeup. Turns out, he’s not like the rest of his family.
“There’s something different in your genes,” he says. “Like a mutation.”
We get a little hint of the 90s X-Men animated series theme as Kamala processes it, but she dismisses it as “just another label,” even as real-world fans’ heads explode. It was Marvelof for a while, but Kamala appears to be the first confirmed mutant to appear in the mainstream MCU.
“There are so many different ways to do it,” said Sana Amanat, executive producer and co-creator of Ms. Marvel.after the final airs. “It’s important and ultimately not at the same time… We’re trying to do this whole thing about how not to define ourselves based on these labels, so we didn’t want to put too much weight on it.”
This is a throwback to his comic book origins, where his abilities are a result of his Inhuman status (a genetic offshoot of humanity that gains strength when exposed to the Terrigen Mist). They are quite similar to the Marvel mutants, which manifest their powers when the X-Gene in their DNA is activated.
Mutants could not be used in the MCU before Marvel owner Disney regained the cinematic rights to the X-Men after acquiring 21st Century Fox (and the X-Men film rights) in 2019. It looks like Marvel was trying to promote the Inhumans as replacements. Unfortunately, was bad — it’s on Disney Plus, don’t waste your time watching it — and the idea faded.
Ever since Fox’s acquisition, X-Men fans have been waiting for the arrival of the mutant super team in the MCU. So far, there’s Quicksilver from the X-Men movies(this ) and Professor X appeared (he form the main MCU).
X-Men is coming to Disney Plus, but setting it backwards in the MCU would be too confusing. It will probably happen in a year . We heard more about the MCU future of mutants at Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con panel on Saturday, July 23.
Becoming his idol
Kamala’s Avengers fandom is a key element of her character and is particularly sympathetic(Brie Larson). The character doesn’t appear to offer any guidance or words of wisdom to Kamala, but the post-credits sequence hints at the failure of early Ms. Marvel comics.
Kamala collapses on her bed and her mother offers one of her firm motherly reminders to do her science homework. Before he can get to his closet door (which has a Captain Marvel poster on it), his bracelet starts to glow.
She wakes up to discover she’s transformed into Carol, giving us a brief cameo of Larson and a look at the many, many pieces of Captain Marvel art on her walls. It’s also possible that Carol switched places with Kamala – either scenario would refer to the comics.
“Oooh, no, no, no…” he says before running away from the fire.
Our last meeting with Carol has comefrom last year while she’s among the heroes trying to figure out the origin of the mysterious rings — Kamala’s bracelet has similar impressions. .
This film will work with Monica Rambeau, a former government agent who won them overon WandaVision. That was the last time we saw him by a Skrull in the employ of superspy Nick Fury.
In the comics, Kamala subconsciously took on Carol’s appearance when her polymorphic abilities first manifested, as she idolized the iconic hero, fitting her more into the traditional superhero mold than being Pakistani-American. As Kamala gained more control over her abilities, she realized that she needed to reflect Carol’s actions rather than her appearance, and stuck to her appearance to create her superhero persona.
However, the original, pre-Carol comics Captain Marvel lived in the Negative Zone (parallel universe) andWith a man named Rick Jones who has to deal with heroism on Earth. Jones made the switch by rocking a pair of nega bands (fancy alien bracelets). Given that Kamala uses the bracelet in the MCU, she and Carol may have a similar connection.
The first Ms. Marvel-Captain Marvel team-up has arrived. They worked together when the cities of Jersey City and New York were thrown into chaos by another universe colliding with their own. .
High school madness
Damage Control takes a deeply disturbing look at the Jersey City Islamic Masjid mosque, where Kamran was hunted, citing the treatment of Muslims in the United States since 9/11. After that, most of the episode is spent defending him from the agents when Kamala and Bruno hide out at Coles Academic High School. Kamala’s other best friend is Nakia Baha, while rival friend Zoe Zimmer and her brother Aamir (Yasmeen Fletcher, Laurel Marsden and Saagar Shaikh) also come to help. It’s a bit of a stretch to see them all, but whatever.
They distract and confuse the agents in a sequence inspired by the late John Hughes’ ’80s teen movies, but Kamra’s use of his new abilities seems increasingly dangerous—helping him might be a bad idea.
Kamala is determined to keep him safe and uses her energy manipulation powers to create an awesome suit of crystal armor that protects him and increases his size when fighting government agents. Iman Vellani confirmed in a Reddit AMA that it was inspired by the powers of X-Men member Armor, who can create a psionic exoskeleton to cover his body.
“Embiggen!” he says using his words from the comics before removing his armor.
It’s enough to help Kamran fight the agents until he can’t escape and DODC Agent Deever (Alysia Reiner) is finally arrested for disobeying orders.
Easter eggs, lingering questions and observations
- This episode shares the title, No Normal, with the first collected edition of Kamala’s solo comic series.
- Kamala’s outfit looks amazing on live stage. Did his mother fix it or did he fix it?
- I’d also like to know if Kamala should fill her powers — it doesn’t seem like it.
- “He looked so familiar . . .” G. Willow WilsonThe writer, who republished Kamala’s first solo comic in 2014, is among those supporting the new hero in a social media montage.
- Carol showing up and telling Kamal that he’s doing a good job would have been an obvious way to work in a cameo, but the rooftop scene with her dad mostly served that purpose.
That’s all for Ms. Marvel on Disney Plus, but it will be the next MCU show to hit the streaming serviceon August 17. is in theaters now It will be paid on November 11.
