Is there less space on your desk since you started working from home? Need more screens when traveling? The Model S12 Fopo Portable Monitor adds two displays to your laptop in order to increase productivity, and it is undoubtedly successful, but not perfect. Here’s what you need to know before you buy.

Three screens are better than one; If you’ve used multiple displays for work, you know how easy it is to spend your time efficiently. Instead of using the alt + tab (Cmd + tab on Mac) to change key programs, simply swipe left or right to move / paste between windows, adjust your music, or reply to messages.

Adequate protection for the open screen, make sure you have enough ports (or adequate hubs) on your laptop to accommodate both monitors, a compatible laptop model, and a stationary place to work at home or while traveling.

Installation: Simple with some obstacles

At the top of the Fopo Triple Laptop Screen Extender box is a quick start guide that doesn’t give you a complete picture. You will need the included instructions and a little elbow oil to understand how everything fits and connects to your specific device. The good news is that if you have any questions you need to answer, Fopo’s customer service is kind and helpful.

Once you understand the logistics, the sail will be relatively comfortable from then on. Turn the screens in opposite directions, adjust the middle to the width of your laptop, make sure that both feet below your laptop screen, and push the middle inwards.

The covers on the top are located on the screen of your laptop, and you can use the backrest to support the extra 5.35 lb (2.43 kg) weight of the monitors. Parking requires a bit of elegance to place where you want it, and if you move the laptop’s screen forward to some degree, you’ll need to completely change its location. In addition, once the monitors are turned on, it is difficult to reach the support on them, so you will either have to go to the back of your laptop or blindly overtake your displays.

Another concern to note here is that there is no real locking mechanism to keep monitors on your laptop. Lock screens work by hanging from your main display, but it’s not feel safe. I believe the Screen Extender will close perfectly on your desk or lap, but moving on is another story. Travel these screens in your bag and install them at your hotel or Airbnb desk? Absolutely. Do you walk with them on your laptop at a congress or career event? Not a chance, it will immediately slip when you try to present your work.

The Screen Extender is more or less installed, it’s time to turn the screens to the angle of your choice and connect the ports you will use for audio and video.

Note: Fopo recommends using a Triple Laptop Screen Extender with an external power source connected to your laptop. For best results, make sure your charger is turned on.

Includes all the accessories you may need: two USB-C cables, two Mini HDMI cables, two USB-C to USB-A cables, a power adapter, a cleaning cloth, and two screen protectors. I use a MacBook Pro 2016 as my daily drive laptop, so I connected a Triple Laptop Screen Extender using 2 USB-C ports.

Note: MacBooks with M1 chips are not compatible with the Fopo Triple Laptop Screen Extender along with Surface Series laptops. M1 Pro and M1 Max chips are compatible.

The screens start as soon as your cables are connected properly; but if you have macOS, you will not be able to use them yet. If they still don’t work properly, you need to go to System Preferences> Screens> and rearrange the displays until they are properly aligned.

Tip: Make sure you use the correct USB-C port on each display. Connect the upper USB-C port on the right monitor and the lower USB-C port on the left monitor directly to your laptop.

You can also adjust the resolution of each screen by clicking on Display Settings, even if the 1080p desktop elements are too small for you. Low resolutions make it a little easier to navigate the screen, but you’ll sacrifice the FHD aesthetics that these monitors are capable of.

For additional personalization, press the menu button on both screens to adjust contrast, aspect ratio, sharpness, color levels, activate HDR mode, and adjust several other similar settings. Note that some of these settings are reset each time you disconnect them from your laptop. Each time you want to use the Triple Laptop Screen Extender, you will have to edit them manually.

Now you are all ready and ready to use a laptop with a triple monitor.

Design and Screens: Dark but Friendly for Work

These 12-inch (30.48 cm) monitors are black and offer a wide rotation angle of 235 degrees. The left screen can be rotated 180 degrees for presentations during stand-ups and meetings.

Unfortunately, the USB-C cable prevents the screen from rotating along the middle, but you won’t have any problems showing your findings to the people in front of you (if you are careful not to push too much around you and the screens to slide off your laptop).

This rotation also means that you can place each screen anywhere you want to increase productivity from home.

Speaking of the left screen that rotates all the way around, this is how it is stored. It is exposed to the elements without seeing any protective cover. When not in use, I recommend a cushioned laptop bag or backpack with a soft interior to accommodate the Triple Laptop Screen Extender; otherwise, you run the risk of a damaged screen.

Besides, the screens are not bad at all. The 60Hz refresh rate is quick and clean for almost all tasks, and the 1080p Full HD resolution allows you to edit sharp video showcases and easy-to-illuminate photos. They can be a little brighter; I always used the highest brightness setting. Although this puts strain on your battery, this is part of Fopo’s recommendation to plug your laptop into a power source during use.

Each screen is large enough to conveniently handle a task such as replying to messages via email or Slack, controlling your music, or previewing code. This means that you can perform three key points of your work schedule in tandem, saving a minute and a few seconds here.

This saves time, and if efficiency is measured by how much you can achieve over a period of time, Fopo’s Triple Laptop Screen Extender will definitely make you more efficient. Just make sure there is a place to keep it safe.

You will need two free USB-C ports that support video and power transfer, or two open USB-A ports (for USB-C to USB-A cables) and two more open HDMI ports on your laptop. If you have a compatible MacBook, this is not a problem; simply connect two USB-C cables (approximately 4 feet, 121.92 cm) designed for very long operation. However, when you want to turn the left monitor 180 degrees, the length of the cables is a bit noticeable – in addition, they create wire reels that hang from both sides of your laptop.

Conversely, if you’re using a Chromebook or an old Windows laptop, you may not have all the correct ports. You can solve the problem with USB and HDMI hubs, which usually work for $ 15-50, or with a monitor support center for a more permanent desktop solution.
