Labor and the Liberal Democrats must come ‘clean’ whether there is an electoral agreement or not, a cabinet minister said last night.
Sajid Javid has challenged the government after the strategic vote at the ‘industrial level’ gave a double defeat to the government in the by-elections.
Opposition parties have stated they will not run in the by-elections.
The two parties campaigned lightly in constituencies they did not target – and both did so badly that they lost their deposits there. Tory co-chair Oliver Dowden resigned yesterday morning, saying “someone has to take responsibility.”
But Health Secretary Mr Javid said: ‘Care Starmer and Lib Dams must be clear to the public about any election deal.
‘The government led by Starmer, run by Lib Dams and SNP, will break up our union, and push our economy backwards if we can at least spend. We must not allow this to happen, which is why we need to unite and advance our agenda for the British people. “

Last month, The Mail on Eindy expressed doubts from Mr Dowden that candidates were standing in areas where Lib Dame’s support was strong enough to prevent Sir Care from splitting the anti-Tory vote.
He said Sir Ed Davy’s party had backed the Labor-dominated party. Claims were rejected by both Labor and LibDams.

Conservative Vice President Luke Hall said: “It is clear that Labor and the Liberal Democrats have entered into a secret and dishonest electoral pact, seeking to help each other through strategic voting rather than running on their own record.
‘This increases the likelihood of a harmful alliance of anarchy, a weak care star supported by the SNP and Lib Dems. They should be clean in their dreaded backroom deals. ‘
Matt Singh of Number Cruncher Consultancy said the results for Tiverton and Wakefield were “industrial-level strategic voting”.
The results, which were also blamed on voters sitting at home, led to Conservative Reconstruction Day.
After a morning phone call with the Prime Minister, Vice-Chancellor Rishi Sunak tweeted: “We all take responsibility for the outcome and I am determined to continue working to address the cost of living.”
But observers noted that Mr Johnson was not mentioned in his statement.

But at some point yesterday, when asked if he considered resigning, Mr Johnson dropped the question.

Strategic voting in Tiverton and Honiton is doubtful as the Lib Dems came third in 2019 but won the seat.
He received 14.8 percent of the vote in Thursday’s general election, up from 52.9 percent.
Labor leader Sir Carey Starr met with new Wakefield MP Simon Lightwood as the party reclaimed the West Yorkshire seat from the Conservatives in the Wakefield by-election.
Labor meanwhile fell from 19.5 percent of the vote to 3.7 percent, indicating that people are switching strategically.
At Wakefield, Labor saw its vote share rise from 39.8 percent in 2019 to 47.9 percent on Thursday. Lib Dames, on the other hand, saw its vote fall to 1.8 percent from 3.9 percent.
“The majority cannot be reversed without a strategic vote and an informal election agreement,” said Naomi Smith, chief executive of the anti-Brexit Best for Britain campaign group, which has been campaigning for an electoral agreement between the two parties.
Urging Sir Care and Sir Ed to make an official agreement, he added: ‘Labor and Lib Dams should not rest on their laurels, it will be very difficult to repeat this success in the general election.
“Our vote proves that they must work together to defeat the government.”
But Labor frontbencher Lisa Nandy denied any such deal, saying: ‘We did not have an election agreement in this election, nor will we. People vote with their feet. ‘
Sir Ed added: “I’m honest – there’s no agreement, there’s no agreement, but the Liberal Democrats are fighting in the fields in the belief that we can win.”
