The last two years have been terrible for a number of reasons. But along the way, we tried to make a brief test: what would happen if cinemas went broadcasting instead? Now things are slowly returning to the status quo. And you know what? I will never be able to return to the theater.

I say this as a former cinema fan, and yes, the experience is still nostalgic for me. Cinemas have long been a place to escape from real life, go to a meeting, or just spend a few hours. The lifelong Marvel cycle (sorry, DC, but please try again) was a bit of a dream come true. I thought I would always be among the first to see the end Star Way, Star Warsor Avengers film. But no one I know has the same feelings about the film, so seeing it in the cinema with like-minded strangers felt like a special experience.

But it was also kind of terrible, because the person next to me did not stop humming all the songs. Try to enjoy seeing Howl’s Moving Castle in a new way, the distracting roar deprived him of another pleasant experience. This is one of the biggest problems with cinemas (apart from the price).

Movie Experiences Are Unhappy Now

We chose to go to the theater for the first time since April 2020. After more than a year, we thought it was the perfect time to see what we had lost.

Another family decided they needed at least three times more snacks, and they all passed me by and separated as a group.

It was terrible and I never enjoyed the experience. What’s worse is that I paid a lot of money for tickets, plus expensive popcorn and soda. The night cost me more than $ 50, but I found myself and my family miserable. I’m sure there were “moments that made the audience happy” and I enjoyed them, but I always struggled to hear, see and ignore the people around me. Even those “happy moments” were silent compared to what they should have been.

And this is not the first time. Going to the movies, especially popular movies, is very bad. Maybe you will have a large audience that just wants to watch the movie. Or maybe you’ll find yourself next to a scoundrel who really answers the phone. Or the theater could be bad when you go to see the first one Miracle Woman, The theater’s horrible lighting structure disrupted the experience and washed the screen for more than half of the film.

For a long time, we realized that we were not satisfied with the theatrical experience. We continued to try different theaters, thinking that a certain place was to blame – but the problem was with us. My family no longer enjoys the “collective stranger” experience. We want a big screen, fantastic sound, popcorn and soda. But without other people and high prices. And the good news is that we have already resolved this.

Build your own cinema

The bad news is that I don’t want to go to the movies anymore. The good news is that over the last few years, I’ve slowly built a home theater worthy of my favorite experience. I used to think that the dream of a “home theater” was unattainable for me for various reasons. I’m not rich, so I won’t have a private theater with stadium-style seats to accommodate large families and friends.

I live in a ranch-type house with a high ceiling, but not high enough to hang a projector. The large windows in my house are also a problem, because bright lights are the enemy of projectors. I have a ready-made basement where the windows are not a problem, but it has even lower ceilings and a huge channel through which all this part is difficult to clean my head.

But even if you don’t have a place for a traditional projector, you can still do something; it can simply lead to more spending. Ultra Short Shot Projectors are perfect for small homes like mine because they can live a few inches away from the wall and still project the screen 100 inches or more. But there is a projector for your home, regardless of size and shape.

Get the right projector and you may not even need a sound system. These days, there are more and more voices sounding relatively decent, but if you really want a theatrical experience, you’ll have to go for something better. If you do not have much space, you can try the volume bar. A 7.1 surround system or better will help you get a complete “movie experience”.

I decided to install a 7.1 surround system one piece at a time. I started with receiver and floor speakers, then added another speaker to the system when my budget allowed. Finally, I set up a system that thundered the house Jurassic Park and makes each game more lively. My only complaint about Sony receivers is that the company insists on pre-named entries.

Of course, you can stop there and meet the minimum requirements of a “home theater”. But you will miss it. Every movie calls for popcorn; Thankfully, it is not difficult to prepare at home. But give up the microwave. Instead, you can choose a complete “theatrical look” with a small air popper or a larger popcorn maker.

Of course, one of the best parts about the growth of theaters was the arcade machines. If we were lucky, we could appear early or stay a few quarters late. But now you can bring your car home, whether you like it or not Terminator 2pinball machine or classic warrior.
