Overwatch 2 Content Announces Roadmap, End of Loot Boxes at Open Event

Posted on June 17, 2022 By admin No Comments on Overwatch 2 Content Announces Roadmap, End of Loot Boxes at Open Event

What is happening

Overwatch 2 has unveiled a content roadmap for the first two PvP seasons as the game moves to a free-to-play model. The loot boxes are over, there are battle tickets, and fans will get a new hero or map each season.

Why it is important

Overwatch’s popularity has stagnated over the past two years, during which time the game has gained virtually no new content. The commitment to accept Overwatch 2 as a live service game fixes some of the biggest problems that originally posed.

What’s next?

Registration for the second beta version of Overwatch 2 is now open to PC and console gamers, and the game will launch early on October 4th.

Overwatch 2 embarked on a long journey, starting with the announcement of BlizzCon in 2019 before a two-year virtual silence. But now we finally get a steady stream of information about the game and its comparison with its predecessor. On Thursday, we saw the most detailed look at the future of Overwatch, which gave fans hope that the shooter would return to fame.

In Thursday’s video, the developers of Overwatch 2 released new information about the upcoming free-to-play hero shooter, as well as a content roadmap for the first two seasons and beyond. The developers talked about the game’s transition to a live service model, detailing how this will allow them to deliver new content to the game in the coming years.

When it was first released six years ago, Overwatch created waves in the entire video game world, but as Blizzard turned its attention and resources to the development of Overwatch 2, the original game stopped without new heroes from April 2020 and new maps for the competitive game from May 2019. Overwatch developers admit past mistakes and describe the steps they take to make sure the new game doesn’t slow down.

What we learned about Overwatch 2, including plans for the first two PvP seasons, the upcoming beta, and the new tank hero I will be cheating on in the near future: Junker Queen.

Overwatch 2 beta launch time

Overwatch 2 is getting its second beta, which is scheduled to launch on Tuesday, June 28, at 11:00 a.m. and run until 11:53 p.m., July 18. Players will be able to play as the Junker Queen and play on a new map in Rio, the home of support hero Lucio. You can register on the Overwatch 2 beta website. If you really want to get guaranteed access to the beta and don’t mind investing some money, you can buy the Watchpoint Package for $ 40 and unlock exclusive skins for Cassidy and Soldier 76.

Overwatch 2 release date

Overwatch will enter early access on October 4th. It will be available on PC, Xbox Series X / S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Players who purchase the game before 11:00 a.m. on June 23 will also receive skins for Sombra and Doomfist, as well as an Exclusive Player Symbol and a Founder Package with an unannounced gift.

Overwatch 2 roadmap: From start to finish

The developers of Overwatch 2 announced a number of changes to the game at an event on Thursday. With the exception of the transition to 5v5, which significantly shakes the pace of the game, no individual change is felt as a titanic change. However, the changes should create a game experience that combines familiar, free-to-play structures with Overwatch’s unique, live game.

Here is what we know so far:

  • PvP will get new seasons every nine weeks, and a new hero or map will be added at the beginning of each season. The developers said the goal is to give each season a unique feel that can include key balance patches.
  • No more loot boxes: Each season will have its own battle ticket, which includes a variety of cosmetics, including new skins for the characters.
  • The rating system is changing. The Skill Rating or SR system is being replaced by a new system designed to give players a better sense of development, including several levels within each level.
  • Players will receive new tools to help them improve, including a new post-game report designed to give you more information about how you performed.
  • The game adds legendary skins – a level above the legendary skins that will allow players to individualize each skin. Mythical skins also come with unique in-game cosmetic effects.

New details about the season’s plans could be the biggest news from Thursday’s secret event. In the live game, the seasons start and end very spontaneously, there is nothing to separate one from the other. Getting a new hero or map (or both) every nine weeks, and major balance changes, will finally give each season of Overwatch its own identity and, most importantly, give players a reason to continue playing after the season.

Prior to the announcement, I asked Aaron Keller, Overwatch 2’s game director, what would help make the game stand out from other free-to-play games that follow similar seasonal releases. His answer: Overwatch is special. “I think the thing that sets the original game apart – I think the magic is still part of Overwatch 2,” he said. Keller also thinks the game will continue to attract fans with its fast-paced gameplay, unique heroes, and a long line of exciting releases once the game begins.

Overview of the game and roadmap for the first two seasons of Overwatch 2

Players will see four new heroes and seven new maps in the first two seasons.

Blizzard

Overwatch VP and Commercial Director Jon Spector added that the biggest opportunity for Overwatch was that players wanted more: “They want more heroes and more maps, and they want to try new game modes, and they want to see the story continue and move forward. “The free-to-play model will allow the team to constantly add new content to the game in a way that the original game could not last for years.

Getting rid of loot boxes is also a welcome change, and helps to distinguish Overwatch from the worse aspects of recent times. Diablo Immortal start. But we still have to wait for details about the overall business model for Overwatch 2.

Overwatch 2 new hero: Junker Queen

About five years after the first appearance on the posters on the Junkertown escort map, the Queen of Junkertown will have a character who can be played in Overwatch 2. The newest tank hero is ready to rush into battle and inflict some damage. His abilities will allow him to move fast, injure enemies and even bring them closer to him. We don’t know much about his abilities yet, but everything we’ve seen so far is an aggressive, screaming style of play.

Blizzard also made the game’s first cinematic debut in 2019, following the announcement trailer for Overwatch 2. The new cinema focused on the Junker Queen and her coming to power.

We also saw hints in the works about another hero, probably a support hero. The trailer for the release date showed a brief glimpse of the blue fox spirit leading a team to the spectral gates.

Overwatch 2 needs more support. When Junker Queen reaches the next beta, the tank players will have 10 heroes to choose from, both losing players will choose from a list of 17 heroes, and the two supports will be split between just seven heroes – about half of each hero’s hero choices as other roles.

I asked Geoff Goodman, the protagonist designer of Overwatch 2, about this imbalance. He said the team was aware of the problem and that Overwatch’s new hero releases tended to be tanks and supports over time, but that the team was now discussing ways to speed up the process. This could potentially mean back-to-back hero releases. “We want to add more support,” he said, “and we have some after the release.”

Overwatch 2 PvE

The ad video didn’t say much about the PvE side of Overwatch 2, but developers said PvE events would begin in 2023 as part of the live service. That’s as far as we know now, but the developers said they would release more information before work could begin.
