MacPaw’s CleanMyMac X is a window program that keeps your Mac running fast, even if you don’t want to go under the software yourself. The user-friendly UI makes its features easy to use when you need it, and easy to hide when you don’t need it. Here’s what you need to know.
That’s what we like

- Clean UI
- Functional transparency
- Fast and efficient
When was the last time you cleaned your Mac’s memory? If the answer is a weekly short, you will benefit from the easy-to-use disinfection of CleanMyMac X. Click a few buttons to get a clean Mac.
Installation and User Interface: Neat and Neat
To install CleanMyMac Xi, download the installer for free from MacPaw and drag the .dmg file to the Applications folder. Wait for the installation to complete, then launch CleanMyMac Xi.
With a nicely crafted and easy-to-navigate UI (User Interface) in front of you, the installation is almost complete (and if you’re using the free version, it’s already complete). If you have a license to activate, do so by clicking the Unlock Full Version button. Now Activate Now and enter the license key you received – if you are interested, but have not yet received the full version, click the Get Plan to see the current deals and prices (more on this later).
You are all ready and ready to beautify your Mac. Similar “cleaning” programs tend to avoid complex and shady software practices and do not tell you what they are doing to your PC. CleanMyMac X is at the other end of the spectrum.
This gives you an overview of what each function does and allows you to delve deeper into the details if you wish. You can see exactly what CleanMyMac X has deleted, installed, or updated, and you can opt out of any by checking a checkbox. Of course, if you refuse to read and just want to press a button to clean and optimize your Mac, you can do the same.
Tip: Some CleanMyMacX operations require you to provide full disk access to the program (this is optional). You can do this by clicking the Login button and following the on-screen instructions.
I also appreciate the simple, clear navigation menu that sits at the top of the program. CleanMyMac X never feels like a maze trying to find its way; you know exactly where you are and what you use at any time.
For even easier use, when the application window is minimized, you can use the CleanMyMac X icon on the Mac’s top toolbar to monitor your Mac’s health indicators and memory (it’s easy to hide or close, and other screen elements aren’t invasive.)
Features Overview: Everything you need and then some
The functionality set on the CleanMyMac X is impressive. It’s not just a piece of software that cleans up your temporary files and browsing history and then claims that the Mac is faster in order of size.
CleanMyMac X can help you update your macOS version and applications from a UI, clear RAM, delete annoying programs trying to stay open in background processes, and more. If you are unsure of where to start, consult the Assistant in the upper right corner for suggestions.
Smart Scan is your one-click cleaning tool. Click Scan and allow CleanMyMac X to work magic. The application will see what it can do to clear disk space, protect your Mac from potential threats, and speed things up.
If you click on any of the icons, additional details about the actions that will occur when you click Run will appear.
Smart Scan is best for weekly quick cleaning to make sure your Mac stays in the best condition – if you want a deeper cleaning, look at the other labels.
System Unnecessary aims to speed up the Mac by deleting temporary files (user cache files, system log files, etc.) and resolving errors that slow it down. As with most other processes on CleanMyMac X, you simply click Scan, review Details if you want, and then select Cleanup to free up disk space.
Mail Attachments clears email downloads and attachments stored on your local machine (any attachments will still be available in your inbox) to free up space on your drive.
“Trash” empties files that you have moved to various trash cans but have not yet cleaned. These are still stored in memory on your Mac – get rid of them with two clicks with CleanMyMac X.
Malware Removal scans your Mac for any unusual or malicious activity and provides a complete report of each file you suspect. After scanning the Mac, a threat was detected. I was immediately intrigued and a little worried, I checked the full report to detect the disgusting, barbaric cyber weapon that opened on the MacBook Pro 2016… This was an installation file for Adobe Flash Player.
Although the malware takes something harmless on its radar, I would rather mark an innocent program as potentially dangerous than not informing me when a real threat arises. However, if you are worried, you may want to run another antivirus program for your Mac.
Privacy takes care of your online footprint by clearing your browser history, allowing you to edit application permissions (do you know which apps are allowed to access your camera?), Showing all cookies from each browser you use, and performing other similar functions.
I’m a big fan of how much control CleanMyMac X gives you during cleaning. If you want to delete all saved cookies from Safari, you can do so with the click of a button. But if you have a few things you want to get rid of, scroll through the list and check the individual items.
“Optimization” tracks programs that are running at startup and helps you turn off any ones that are particularly bothersome. It also integrates applications that consume large amounts of processing power, known as “Heavy Consumers.” If any software slows down your Mac significantly, they will appear here.
The service is extremely useful and is somewhat specific to CleanMyMac X. Here you can free up RAM, run maintenance scripts that restore system logs, re-index Spotlight Search, repair disk errors, and more. you can. Read the instructions to decide which processes work best for your Mac.
Spinner breaks down all the apps on your Mac based on how much you use, what platform you come from (App Store, Steam, etc.) and which vendor distributes them. It also shows “remnants” of files that you have previously deleted. You can then completely delete these programs or remnants from a single tab to restore your disk space.
Update checks for any version incompatibilities between the apps on your local machine and the latest edition in the App Store. If there is something outdated, you can update it here.
“Extensions” keeps tabs on your Spotlight Search plugins, Safari extensions, preferences panels, and shared internet plugins. If you have recently installed an extension that makes it difficult to access your browser, you can safely disable it using this tool.
Space Lens scans your drive and shows you the programs and files that take up the most space on your Mac. Divided into folders such as “Programs” and “System”, it is easy to move to different parts of memory and clean spider webs.
“Large and Old Files” is similar to the Space Lens, but it shows files you haven’t touched in a long time. Instead of allowing these forgotten files to be stored in memory, get rid of them with CleanMyMac X. Again, this section includes “Archives”, “Documents”, “A year ago”, etc. to help you find your files. Sorted in useful folders such as the road around your car.
Shredder completely deletes information that you consider undesirable without leaving any traces. This is a simple, useful tool to make sure you free up as much disk space as possible when deleting large programs or folders.
Performance, Results and Comparison
My MacBook Pro 2016 uses a 500GB Hard Drive (HDD). HDDs are not exactly the fastest in terms of data read / write standards. However, CleanMyMac X works quickly and efficiently to review your data, read what it needs, and ignore what it doesn’t.
You control how much disk access you provide to CleanMyMac X, and you can change it at any time. If you want to give full disk access to run a special module such as Mail Attachments, you can temporarily activate it and turn it off as soon as the process is complete. In this case, CleanMyMac X will not have full disk access for a long time: the program is fast.
Some operations, such as Smart Scan (which performs multiple processes at the same time), take longer, but most scan and clean the Mac in 60 seconds. No one wants to turn disk space into a multi-hour test that makes CleanMyMac X’s segmented processes so convenient — if you know you only need to shred a few old files, there’s no need to waste time sifting through your files. Safari cookies.
I tend to look decent on a Mac, so I wasn’t slow to get started. So I haven’t seen any major speed improvements since launching CleanMyMac Xi, but I’ve cleared more than 11 GB of disk space, got a better understanding of what my online privacy footprint looks like, and I’m pretty sure the Mac is working. as smooth as possible.
When compared to similar applications, CleanMyMac X stands out for several reasons. Mac “cleaning” programs are not new, there are many in the market. But where I’ve seen most of them lose interest and doubt, it’s the fact that the user doesn’t know much about what process their applications are running at any given time.
Take MacCleaner Pro, for example. It’s a decent comprehensive program for your Mac, but it’s not clear what’s going on in the background to speed up or clean up your computer.
CleanMyMac X is the opposite, and I welcome their transparency in this regard. I have not come across a similar program that meets the level of simplicity, efficiency and clarity of CleanMyMac X.
Should I buy CleanMyMac X?
If you don’t check your data regularly by hand, I recommend CleanMyMac Xi. If you want to push a button or two and have more space on your Mac, CleanMyMac X is definitely the program to do just that. You’ll also know exactly what’s going on in your car at every step, thanks to helpful tips, a built-in helper and a progress meter.
There are several payment methods for the CleanMyMac X: a 1-year subscription plan starting at $ 39.95 for 1 Mac and a one-time purchase plan starting at $ 89.95 for 1 Mac. You can also get plans to cover two or five Mac devices in the form of a subscription or a one-time purchase. You can also try the free version, which limits the functionality, but gives you a decent overall feel of the CleanMyMac X.
Make sure you check if you can apply any discount, MacPaw makes some solid deals. For example, if you switch to another scrub program, you can get a 40% discount on your order. If you can get a discount, I think it’s worth a one-time purchase for a consistently clean Mac.
