The British Soap Awards returned on Saturday for the first time in two years for another star-studded live ceremony, with host Philip Schofield welcoming the great and good of the soap world to London’s Hackney Empire.
And EastEnders legend Laetitia Dean was the proud recipient of this year’s Outstanding Achievement Award for nearly 40 years playing Sharon Watts.
Anita Dobson, an on-screen mother who played the 54-year-old actress in the role of Angie Watts, said, “Hello Mum!” When she reached the stage.

What an achievement! EastEnders legend Letitia Dean was the proud recipient of this year’s Outstanding Achievement Award for her nearly 40-year tenure playing Sharon Watts at Saturday’s British Soap Awards.

Misbah actress Harvey Weirdy took to the stage to receive the award and told the jubilant audience that ‘many victims are too much for us to get legal justice’.

Comeback! The British Soap Awards returned on Saturday for the first time in two years for another star-studded live ceremony, with host Philip Schofield welcoming the great and good of the soap world to London’s Hackney Empire.
And in 2022, the competition was fierce as the five biggest soaps – Coronation Street, Doctors, Eastenders, Emerald and Holiox – fought for recognition last year for their work.
The show begins with a humorous sketch of actor Sean Williamson, aka Eastenders’ unfortunate Barry Evans, who depicts a security guard as he lusts after soap highlights.
However, he soon saw his onscreen wife, Janine Butcher – who famously killed Barry all those years ago – appear on the screen, causing Shawn to shout: ‘The b *** h is back!’
This year, host Philip Schofield, 60, welcomed the abundance of soap stars in London’s Hackney Empire, where they will compete for prizes in the 14 categories.
The awards are voted on by either a panel of expert judges or by the public, with fans being able to choose their favorite for Best British Soap, Best Leading Performer and Best Family category.

Look who it is! The show began with a humorous sketch of actor Shaun Williamson aka Eastenders’ unfortunate Barry Evans, who portrayed a security guard as he lured into the soap highlights.

Frightening: However, he soon found himself screaming in fear as his onscreen wife, Janine Butcher – who famously killed Barry all those years ago – appeared on the screen, causing Shawn to say: ‘The B *** H is back!’
Meanwhile, earlier this year it was reported that the British Soap Awards have chosen to ax men and women.
Instead of the best actor and actress, many favorite British soap stars will fight for the newly created Best Leading Performer award.
The move follows The Brits, which this year scrapped the gender classification, with Adele defeating Ed Sheeran as Artist of the Year.

He came back! This year, host Philip Schofield, 60, welcomed the abundance of soap stars in London’s Hackney Empire, where they will fight to win awards in the 14 categories.
Past winners of the Best Actress award include Lucy Pargator (who plays Chas Dingle in Emerald), Lucy Fallon (who plays Bethany Plot in Coronation Street) and Charlotte Bellamy (who plays Laurel Thomas in Emerald).
It follows the award for Sexy Men and Women, voted by the public, removed in 2015.
